What’s more, many sellers now use the FBA system to fulfill products through non-Amazon channels. And thousands of merchants are still adopting the FBA model.

The program works with a very straight-forward process. 

First off, sellers must take care of the following steps:

Research and select products with high demand but low competition. The goal is to find (or create) the most profitable items to sell, even after FBA fees. Source the items from a trustworthy supplier or manufacturer, at a reasonable fee. In some cases, the supplier also ships the product to Amazon. Create product listings to advertise and sell your items in the marketplace. Use high-quality images, targeted keywords and detailed descriptions to engage customers.

The terms FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) and FBM (Fulfillment by Merchant) refer to who organizes the storage and delivery of inventory, i.e., will Amazon (FBA) or you, the merchant (FBM) take responsibility for all the stock-related parts of the Amazon sales process?

A good starting point for identifying top selling items on Amazon is a list of current best-sellers (“our most popular products based on sales”) that the platform itself curates. You can find bestseller lists for international marketplaces, including the USA, the UK, Canada, Spain or Germany.

These lists show items that are selling the most across the entire site. They show the most popular products per category, ranging from toys to books to video games.

Whether you are an FBA or FBM seller, these are the fees you have to pay in order to sell on Amazon.

A referral fee is the “commission” paid to Amazon for each item sold on their platform. Typically, this fee is a flat percentage, often 15% or less.

However, you don’t have to pay these fees upfront. Instead, referral fees are taken out of your Amazon account after the sale is made.

As we briefly mentioned above, when sellers enroll in FBA, they immediately pass the order-fulfillment buck to Amazon from start to finish. This involves: sourcing, packing and shipping.

Which allows brands to only source and sell products. 

In contrast, FBM sellers take charge of supply, logistics and delivery.

The Amazon FBM program focuses on brand independence. So, instead of paying service fees, you can use your own resources to source, sell, and deliver products to customers.

That means more work, of course. But in return, you take charge of the entire sales funnel, with almost no reliance on Amazon.
